Everything was fair game when I was writing. I made my way back from it; it just took a while. The drums are just incredible. You can feel the passage through pain in the lyrics and feel the choices that the musician made in his road out of doubt and fear. Slinkier than before, sexier even. Which is what Lightbody has done on this album, allowing the listener to witness him slaying his own dragons.
And this is coming from a Nobel Prize-winning poet. Because on bad days you try to wring words out of the pen like a dirty dish towel, to have something fall on the page.

Snow Patrol Lyrics
The album charted at in the UK and failed to sell well upon its initial release. But its re-release saw it eventually go gold in the UK. Similar artists. The Killers. The Fray. Kings Of Leon. Songs from similar artists. Somewhere Only We Know. Fix You. As the decade has progressed, however, the acoustic wet blanket sounds of Middle England have risen again to the point we routinely have to tolerate The Script and Scouting For Girls on radio, TV and magazines. Unlike many of their peers, however, Snow Patrol have a blood line of independent labels, toilet venue tours and uber-indie side projects.
However it is worth mentioning again purely to illustrate how much things have changed. Forming in at University in Dundee, the group eventually signed with Jeepster who decided to use the same blue print that had achieved them success with Belle and Sebastian and allow Snow Patrol to grow organically, picking up word of mouth buzz as they went. Two albums later and things were not good.
Listening to Up to Now , it is genuinely baffling how the band struggled so much. A bonafide tear jerker, the song should be played to anyone who says Snow Patrol are not a good band. It is also the most beautiful song ever to feature on the same album as a Zane Lowe rap. For that is the problem with Up to Now. As for the Zane Lowe rap Ultimately what it boils down to is this. A struggling band wanted to be rich and successful- who can blame them?
